The grey region represents the most conserved region between different Erv1 sequences containing the redox centre, the FAD binding site and two conserved cysteine domains (CXXC and C-16-C). The location of the third cysteine pair differs between organisms which seems to be dependent on either a Mia40 protein being present or whether that Mia40 is essential or not.
