In A, the upper panel shows the Northern blot detection of the P25 mRNA from leaves (lanes 1 and 2) and from flower (lane 3) while the lower panel shows the ribosomal RNAs from the same sample lanes after methylene blue staining. Panel B shows two P25 expressing transgenic plants on the right, as compared to two wild type tobacco plants on the left. Through the early stages the transgenic plants show no difference in the phenotype, but the final size remains about 10% smaller than that of the wild type plants, and the lower leaves show slight premature senescence.
