Nitrate concentration in the leaf apoplastic fluid (A) and xylem sap (B) of cucumber. The concentration of nitrate in the leaf apoplastic fluid was calculated due to multiplication of the nitrate concentration measured in the apoplastic washing fluid (AWF) by the dilution factor of 6 (see Methods). Treatments of the plants and statistics as reported in the legend of Figure 1.
