Crossing scheme used to create the three cytolines. TC243 inbred line was back-crossed 10 times, for the duration of 10 years, always as a pollen donor, with TC221 and T248. At the end of the 10th cross, which correspond to the 10th year of the crossing scheme, 99.95% of the acceptor lines/cytoplasm donors’ genetic material is replaced by that of the inbred line TC243. Neither mitochondria nor chloroplasts are transmitted through pollen, resulting in cytT248, cytTC221, and TC243, which share the same nucleus but a different organellar set
