Physiological changes in kiwifruit during late maturation and Phase 1 ripening in response to ethylene and propylene treatments. Fruit were harvested from 140-224 days after full bloom (DAFB; BBCH stages 79-87) and treated for 24 h with ethylene (100 μL.L-1; E-100) and different concentrations of propylene (P-100, P-1000 and P-10000 in μL.L-1) and assessed 1, 3 and 5 days after harvest (DAH). Black stars represent interpolated data points due to missing data. a Soluble solids content (SSC), b. Fruit firmnesss, c. Flesh colour, d. Endogenous ethylene production. The black bar (140-161 DAFB) indicates a period when ethylene production was not detected. The blue bar (182-210 DAFB) indicates a period when ethylene production was repressed
