Activity study of Δ1-pyrroline-5-carboxylate synthetase (P5CS) and catalase. The enzyme extract from the leaves of control and NaCl treated plants was assayed for the activity of P5CS (a) and catalase (b). The individual columns represent the mean specific activity (Unit mg-1 protein) value of at least 3 replicate studies. The vertical bars represent standard deviation. The mean specific activity values (columns) of P5CS or catalase marked with at least one common alphabet are not different significantly from each other at p ≤ 0.05, as found by Duncan's multiple range test for unequal sample size. Catalase extracted from the leaves of the control (C) and 425 mM NaCl treated (T) plants was loaded and run on native gel and stained for in-gel activity (c). The staining shows noticeable increase in the activity of the enzyme in response to the NaCl treatment.
