DAPI-DNA intensity of chloroplasts of leaf sections shown in Figure 3. Plastids with dense, bright nucleoids were classified as "strong", and those with dispersed, faint nucleoids or no visible nucleoids were scored as "weak" or "none", respectively. At least 100 chloroplasts were evaluated from among 9–10 microscopic fields for each of the sections represented in Figure 3.
