Plants were grown in hydroponics for 5 weeks in 8-h SDs at the photon flux density of 50 (LL) or 120 (HL) μmol.m-2.s-1. Results are shown as a function of NO3- supply; NH4+ was provided at a constant NO3-:NH4+ ratio of 27:1. For (a) and (b), results are the mean ± s.d. of two independent experiments; 10 plants per batch. Data for (c) were averaged from 10 pooled plants.
