Protein subcellular relocalization and spatial subfunctionalization events occurred during the evolution of the NHX family. NHX family has undergone a series of protein subcellular relocalization and spatial subfunctionalization events. These events are clearly observed by phylogenetically mapping functional and expression information collected from studies on Arabidopsis proteins [6, 7, 1723]. Terminal nodes correspond to the following sequences: AtNHX1 - At5g27150; AtNHX2 - At3g05030; AtNHX3 - At3g06370; AtNHX4 - At5g55470; AtNHX5 - At1g54370; AtNHX6 - At1g79610; OsNHX1 - Os07g47100; OsNHX2 - Os05g05590; OsNHX3 - Os11g42790; OsNHX4 - Os06g21360; OsNHX5 - Os09g11450; ScNHX1 - YDR456W.
