Plants were spray inoculated with Pst DC3000 (108 c.f.u ml–l) and bacterial growth in plant apoplast was determined as described in the materials and methods. The bars represent the mean and standard deviation from values of six to eight replicate samples. The experiment was repeated three times with similar results.
