Phylogeny of functionally characterized gymnosperm TPSs. The ent-kaurene synthase from Physcomitrella patens was included as an outgroup. TPSs described in this paper are shown with white background. Protein alignments were prepared using MUSCLE [54] and phylogenetic trees were constructed using the neighbour-joining method with 100 bootstrap repetitions (asterisks are given at clades supported by 80% and higher bootstrap values), within CLC Main Workbench (CLC bio, Århus, Denmark).
