Accumulation patterns of chloroplast rRNA transcripts at 22°C. (A) Structure of rrn operon. Solid lines under each rRNA gene represent the probe used for Northern blot analysis in (B)-(D). (B)-(D) Northern blots of 23 S (B), 4.5 S (C), and 16 S (D) rRNAs. Total leaf RNAs were extracted from three-week-old plants grown under the same conditions as shown in Figure 1A. Equal amounts of RNA (3 μg) were loaded onto each lane of the gel. After electrophoresis and transfer, nylon membranes were hybridized with 32P labeled rRNA gene-specific probes as indicated in (A). The gel loading controls are shown in Additional file 1, Figure S5.
