Correlation of 1O 2 production and GPXH expression. Singlet oxygen production was measured with SOSG in each of the 20 gox mutants during short-term exposure to HL (500 μmol photons m-2 s-1 for 15 min), and was plotted against GPXH expression of the corresponding mutant grown either under (A) ML- (80 μmol photons m-2 s-1) or (B) HL-condition (250 μmol photons m-2 s-1). This revealed that 1O2 production in the mutants positively correlates with GPXH expression under HL- (R2 = 0.48) but not ML-conditions (R2 = 0.04). The production of 1O2 was calculated for each mutant from five and GPXH expression from three independent experiments (average ± SE), and normalized to the corresponding level of the wild-type strain (grey dashed lines).
