Examples of relationships between the concentration of inorganic phosphorus (P) in the root chambers and the rate of P uptake of single specimens of (A) Cladium mariscus spp. jamaicense and (B) Typha domingensis acclimated to low (5 μg l-1) P concentrations (solid lines and closed symbols) and to high (500 μg l-1) P concentrations (dashed lines and open symbols). Plants were grown at low (<0.5 mg l-1) oxygen concentration in culture solutions. Uptake was measured by P depletions of root solutions followed by stepwise increments of the P concentrations. The relationship was fitted to a modified Michaelis-Menten model (curves).
