CrSGD is expressed in the epidermis of C. roseus aerial organs. Serial longitudinal sections of a young developing leaf were hybridised either with CrSGD antisense (AS) riboprobes, with CrSGD sense (S) probes used as a negative control or with a CrSTR AS probe and a CrD4H AS probe used as positive controls [28]. In the revoluted developing base of the leaf, CrSGD is specifically coexpressed in the epidermis with CrSTR, the preceding gene in the monoterpene indole alkaloid (MIA) pathway whereas CrD4H involved in a downstream step along the MIA pathway is expressed in the specialised laticifer-idioblast cells.
